Co-Founding Partner · Real Estate
Eric Freeman believes taxes are one of the largest expenses most people will ever pay, and that with the right knowledge they don't have to be. That conviction runs through everything he does: advising clients, writing, teaching, and investing.
Eric specializes in partnership taxation and complex real estate transactions, including like-kind exchanges, mergers, consolidations, buy-outs, cost segregation studies, transaction formation, and qualified opportunity zone funds. Before co-founding FreemanBarraza, he served as a principal and Real Estate Practice Leader at a top-200 public accounting firm, where he advised investors, sponsors, and developers on the tax side of their most significant transactions. He also brings knowledge of international taxation, hospitality, and the needs of high-net-worth clients.
What sets Eric apart is that he lives the work. He began investing in real estate right after college in 2012, starting with a single-family home. His portfolio has since grown to include multifamily, office, industrial, and land, which means he has personally faced the acquisition decisions, financing trade-offs, depreciation strategies, and exit questions his clients bring him.
Eric is a graduate of the University of Arizona, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and a Master of Accounting with an emphasis in tax. He is a licensed CPA in Arizona.
At FreemanBarraza, Eric leads the firm's boutique real estate practice and partners with Fernando Barraza on the engagements where real estate meets the border: foreign investors in US property, cross-border partnerships, and family portfolios that span two countries.
"Taxes don't have to be your largest expense. The difference between paying too much and paying what you owe is almost always knowledge, and planning before the deal, not after."Eric Freeman, CPA, MAcc

When he isn't structuring a partnership or recording a video, Eric is usually outdoors snowboarding, hiking, or four-wheeling, or sitting at a poker table, where reading the odds is a familiar skill. His personal motto says a lot about how he approaches both tax law and life: "If you're not miserable, you're not learning."
